HOW TO PRESERVE INDONESIAN CULTURE

Oke kali ini gua bakal nge-share pidato gua pas PRECEDENT2013 di president university kemaren. wkwk yaaa walaupun cuma bisa sampe final, semoga ini bisa bermanfaat yaa ;)

Honourable committee and the master of ceremony..

Dear participants and all audience..

            First of all, we’d better say thanks to Allah SWT that already bestows enjoyable and comfortable for us. For the blessing that enable us to gather here in this wonderful occassion. Secondly, may peace be upon the prophet Muhammad SAW who has guided us into the right ways of life.

            It is a good honor for me to deliver a speech in front of you all as delegation from my school. My name is Liska Feby Fitriani I’m delegation from 4 senior high school. I would like to deliver an English speech by the title:

HOW  TO PRESERVE  INDONESIAN CULTURES

Ladies and gentlemen..

Based on Oxford dictionary, Culture is the art and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively. Culture formed of numerous complicated elements including religions and politics, language, utensil, building, clothes, norms and artworks. Culture has a big role in human life, conscious or not, our living  are inseparable from  culture. For example most of people in Indonesia consume rice as intake of carbohydrates and it has been becoming Indonesian culture since our fathers.

Ladies and gentlemen..

            We need to know that Indonesia is great nation. Indonesia has an abundant of natural resourches,  and a various of Arts and cultures in each province. However nowadays, along with the progress of the times, the spirit of young generations to preserve Indonesian culture is beginning to fade. It is caused by the magnitude of the influence of globalization, the progress of science and technology, and the entry of foreign cultures. They cause a decrease of youth awareness to preserve the cultural values of our country.

It has been proven by the quotation of Irman Syah, Indonesian culturalist in Bengkulu, he said that Indonesia cultures begin to fade when people begin to assume that modernity as a perfect culture. The generation of Indonesia is tempted by foreign culture. They seem like they forget their culture and they look prouder if they could equate the style of clothing and lifestyle as well as foreign people.

Beside that, based on www.kompas.com ,Bernardus Budi Bani, the chairman of the Indonesia national student movement in East of Nusa Tenggara said that the foreign Culture also makes the nationalism soul of the youth is beginning to fade, and farther from the ideals of proclamation, especially at the border of two countries. In fact, many youths are directly involved in those problems, for example in a case of illegal trafficking of oil. That thing reflects the absence of love from young generation to Indonesia cultures.

Ladies and gentlemen...

If we are always being so apathetic in this case, Indonesian cultures begin to fade. Moreover, if we don't keep Indonesian cultures and arts, other countries will claim our cultures as their own. Then, who should be blamed? the Government? is it us who continuously not preserve Indonesian culture?

The goverment of Indonesia has done many efforts to preserve Indonesian culture. They establish the Department of education and culture who is responsible for managing the problems of Indonesian culture. Not only establish that department, the Government of Indonesia also have published more than 108 regulations governing Indonesian culture. Then, can we blame goverment? Do we keep letting foreign culture destroys Indonesian cultures? So, as the young generation of this country, what should we do?

The first step to solve this problem is by increasing a spirit of nationalism. We have to  love domestic products and appreciate the tradition. There are many peoples who don’t appreciate the artworks of Indonesian artist, and not interested in preserving our culture. For example, many youngsters today prefer to show modern dance such as Hiphop, breakdance, and many else than Indonesian traditional dance. Beside that, there are many peolpe in our country prefer to develop foreign foods business such as fried chicken, lemon tea, spaghetti and other junk food, those are not healthy for our body, and even I rarely see traditional food such as gemblong, combro and bajigur  sold at the roadsides in big cities.  As the successor of the nation, we should keep all the existing traditions, we can start from a little thing like by practicing Indonesian traditional dance. Isn’t it?

Ladies and gentlemen...

The second step, we have to selective against the influence of globalization. Globalization is very influential to human life, with the entry of foreign culture to our country, we should take the positive one, and don’t let the negative impacts undermine our moral. This concept is one of the most important thing for us. Why? Because there are many examples of negative impacts such as youths who acted to not care against their surrounding. There are many youths involved in drug cases and free sex.  The influence of Foreign Cultures is one of the factors that lead to the destruction of the moral. It Can’t be denied that the influence of foreign culture can damage the morals because they have many cultural differences with ours.

            Finally, I would like to conclude my speech. And the conclusion is most  people in our country don't care about the fadding culture of Indonesia. This is due to the magnitude of the effects of globalization, the entry of foreign culture to our country and the lack of nationalism. As the successor of nation, we have to increase a spirit of nationalism by loving Indonesian traditions and we have to selective against the influence of globalization, to avoid the negative impacts of foreign culture. Let’s preserve our culture and do the best for our country!
